I went to running group today but i should have probably just run a couple miles alone.  Luckily Kelli and Walter were taking it easy too so I was not completely alone.   I still feel a little sore and tired from Sat.

Darn this snow!  I love snow but once you've had spring it really stinks!  I just went to the climbing gym and ran 6 miles on the tredmill and did a yoga class.  I'm trying to take it easy for this race on Sat.

I was too tired and lazy to blog yesterday so here's my report.  The day was perfect!!!  The weather was perfect, shorts and tank top weather finally!  I had a good friend to run with, the course was awesome (2nd favorite race, ever!).  If you have not run on the island you have to!  The trails were so nice, singletrack, a little sandy, a little muddy, a little steep just what you look for in a trail race right!   I felt great too, way better then last weekend in Moab- not sure why.  I slept better the night before, I rested better the week prior, I ate better the morning of the race and I think I just love trail running!  If I was not in the potty when the gun went off I think I could done even better (my only complaint about that race, only 2 porta potties, ouch!).  There was also only one aid station which turned out to be just fine, I carried water and gu and it was all I needed.   So I started the race in the back of the pack -due to the potty stop and had to do a lot of passing.  The first mile or so was uphill and there was not much room to pass.   I also decided after Moab to take the first 1/2 easy and last 1/2 fast.    I ran with my friend and we chatted and it was so nice, the scenery was beautiful and we actually did see a whole herd of buffalo.   I tried to keep it slow but it was very hard, I hate getting passed.  I remembered every one was passed me to see if I could pass them later.  Around mile 7 or 8 there was a huge  hill, lots of switch backs, it felt great though, I don't mind the hills (thanks to peggy and cheryl!)  I decided at the top of that hill I would take off and see what I could do the last half.   I finally caught and passed everyone that passed me and then about 8 more women and 2 more the last mile.   I felt great and wished I'd gone faster at the start (but mabye i would not have felt so good at the end, who knows!)  I looked at my watch a couple times the last few miles and I was under 7 or a little above.   I don't know the rest of the splits because I'm not that high tec. and there were no milage signs to go off of.   I ended up 9 women overall and 4th in my age group, I think the results are not up yet.  I'm not sure how many were racing either.  It was overall an excellent day, I will do that race for sure next year, mabye even the 50k if I'm feeling really tough.  It is just two laps of the course i did.  Today I cannot imagine doing that course twice unless I walked a lot, all the hills for sure!  I'm just happy I felt good and am getting scared for my 50k in May. (the race was 16.1 miles and we did an easy 4 to make it 20 after the race).
