I went to the rec. center because I slept in again!   I only had 45 min. left till the daycare closed so I ran 3 miles fast on the treadmill, then ran stairs for 10 min. and did some weights for my legs (to see if I can fix this painful knee).  I wish I was running outside!   I did 10 on Sat. and my knee was bugging me.

Ran with the group today, watch alarm did not go off so I only made it for 3/4 of the workout.  We ran a sick hill relay then a nice long cool down.  I could never run like that alone so I am always so thankful for the group, only did 5 miles!  I did my first road bike ride in a couple months today, felt so good except for the hurricane force winds.  We did 18 miles, can't wait for spring!

Slept through alarm again, I was so mad!  I was even going to go at 5:15 and get the extra miles in.  Not only did I sleep in but I woke up to snow!  I ran around a bit till I found the group then did a 2 mile tempo run with them, felt so hard!  Then we did a mile or so cool down and I stayed after for another couple miles to get a full 7.  My left ankle and knee are still bugging me from the Moab race.  Makes me wonder if I really want to do a 50k trail??

HI NANCY!!!! Welcome to the blog!

You are so great to come when you sleep in, I would just stay in bed and forget about it.

So what and where is the 50k you are going to do? I really want to do one, but am uneasy about running on trails. I am accident prone and seem to hit every hole there is to hit. I have a hard enough time on the roads!

Are you running in Moab in a few weeks?

I really wanted to do the 20 mile run with the BBK's but my husband failed to inform me he was going snowmobiling at 6:30 a.m!  So I decided to go skiing with my boys and run later.

I wanted to do a trail run so I left the boys with my brother after skiing and did a run in the canyon.  It was suppose to be a long trail but after 20 min. I started to see Mnt. Lion (or very large dog) tracks in the snow and got super scared!!   There were no other human footprints and no one else in the area so....  I turned around and ran back to car as fast as I could carrying a very large rock in one hand and my car key (as a weapon) in the other.   I then drove back to the city and ran another 6 miles on the canal roads (I figured I was pretty safe from animal attacks there).   It was a great run but not as long or hard as I hoped for.

I missed the running group yesterday so I made myself run alone, in the dark today!  It's so hard to get up when my body knows it's really 5 not 6 a.m.    I felt terrible today too!  I did not sleep well,  and I have not been drinking enough water at all lately and I hope that's why I felt so bad.  I made it about 7 miles then went home and tried to go back to bed, no such luck in our house!   I did run into Peggy out on the road and another friend so that was kind of fun.

Met the group and ran some hills, lots of hills.  I like hills but I had had enough by the end.  I was late agin so I did 5 with the group and 3 extra after.  My 3 after were pretty slow with some more hills thrown in.  I read some 50k training plans yesterday and they said to get really used to hills, even walking hills so that's what I did.  I need to do some long runs back to back as well, soo fun!  I hate training, I only like racing but I guess it's the price we have to pay right?

I was going to do the long run with the BBK's but decided to ski one last day instead.  We went backcountry for 6 hrs!  I am worked!   We hikes superior and skied the backside into upper days 3 times then took a run down flagstaff.  The snow was fluffy and deep, best day of the year!   I can't believe what a workout that is, I really thought I was in pretty good shape but it felt super hard!  I've given myself 10 miles.

I slept in today and rode with a cycle club tonight-20 miles, they said it was an easy ride but they were not taking it easy!!  We did 20 in an hr. I was pooped!  not smart to do right before Moab when i'm trying to take it easy but i was the only girl on the ride and couldn't let them drop me!  Adding my biking miles is really going to mess up my running total milage- any ideas?

I need to do an easy run tomorrow now to get my legs running again.   I'm nervous about Moab.  I want to get a good time but I don't know if I'm in fast mode right now.   I should juts take it easy and run with my brother but I know I won't be able to do that mentally.   Oh well here it goes.

Do you know how bad I wanted to do my little easy 3 mile run today?   My baby woke up at 6:30 am.m so i missed my running time.  I waited till the other 2 were awake and made them go on a bike ride while I ran along side.   We ran around and around horseshoe cir. till i made 3 miles.  They were tired and getting bored so I'd have to push them and pull them and race them and anything I could do to keep them going.  It was kind of pathetic but it's so nice to be outside and felt so good to do an easy run.  Off to Moab.

You did awesome today (I cheated and looked up your time). Sorry I was not much of a conversationalist when I saw you, I was in a foul mood. Plus, as you heard, I just could not breathe. I was running too fast. I always want to run with people, but today I was just plain mad. That race just mentally did not mesh for me today!

So, how are you feeling about next weekend after today? Oh, and how did the new trailer hold up for the trip?

Well the Moab half is over and it wasn't pretty.   I was hoping to get under 1:40 but that wasn't in the cards.   I was one min. faster then last Moab but 10 min. slower then my last half.  I'm not sure what happened but my legs were like lead!  I just had no umph!     I usually feel great on this race and try to sprint through the finish but this time i almost crawled through.  I did not take it easy enough the week leading up to the race.  i did not over run but i backcountry skiied and biked really hard which was really dumb.  I was so thirsty the whole race too, I could not get enough water.  I am o.k. with my time which was 1:44:37 I am just upset with hoe bad i felt, I was mentally gone too, I wanted to quite and just walk so bad which i haven't felt in a while.   I went out really fast (for me)  my first 4-5 miles were around 7 min. miles and my last couple were 9 min. miles- not good!   My husband says I'm taking this way too serious but it bothers how bad I felt.  Seems like a lot of work to have a bad day.  Oh well, I have another race next Sat. so I'll try again.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated and advice on what to do this week to try to recover and get ready for next sat. too.  I did see Kelli which was nice but she took off and I could not catch her.   My brother who weighs 250 did his first half in 2:45 I was very proud of him. Running along with him to his finish really made me remember what running is all about and why I love it so much.  It's really about just pushing our own limits whatever they may be and over coming them, right.

NANCY---I so ditto everything you said! What was the deal with that race? It is so funny to hear us both say that we are fine with our time, just not our performance!!! I was so thirsty that I actually drank gatorade, something I never ever do! It was hot. Almost every race report I have read and person I have talked to has discussed the same struggles, so we were not alone!!!

I have to say that I felt really bad leaving you while you hit the potty. I was hoping you would catch up with me at some point, I even went kind of slow waiting for you for a bit. I felt like a MEAN person when I never saw you again!!!! However, we might have been poison to each other as we both wanted to quit! But it would have been nice to not be alone. My legs were fine, I just had no energy or will to move. I wanted to be done from mile 3 on. I felt like I crawled the last two miles. My garmin mode button does not work, but it would be nice to see my splits.

We finished it, though, and with decent times. I thought you were taking Moab easy since you have the big one this weekend. I think you need major rest this week and avoid all hills! Any run you do should be easy.

I hope you had fun with your family in Moab!!!! And yeah to your brother!

I was too tired and lazy to blog yesterday so here's my report.  The day was perfect!!!  The weather was perfect, shorts and tank top weather finally!  I had a good friend to run with, the course was awesome (2nd favorite race, ever!).  If you have not run on the island you have to!  The trails were so nice, singletrack, a little sandy, a little muddy, a little steep just what you look for in a trail race right!   I felt great too, way better then last weekend in Moab- not sure why.  I slept better the night before, I rested better the week prior, I ate better the morning of the race and I think I just love trail running!  If I was not in the potty when the gun went off I think I could done even better (my only complaint about that race, only 2 porta potties, ouch!).  There was also only one aid station which turned out to be just fine, I carried water and gu and it was all I needed.   So I started the race in the back of the pack -due to the potty stop and had to do a lot of passing.  The first mile or so was uphill and there was not much room to pass.   I also decided after Moab to take the first 1/2 easy and last 1/2 fast.    I ran with my friend and we chatted and it was so nice, the scenery was beautiful and we actually did see a whole herd of buffalo.   I tried to keep it slow but it was very hard, I hate getting passed.  I remembered every one was passed me to see if I could pass them later.  Around mile 7 or 8 there was a huge  hill, lots of switch backs, it felt great though, I don't mind the hills (thanks to peggy and cheryl!)  I decided at the top of that hill I would take off and see what I could do the last half.   I finally caught and passed everyone that passed me and then about 8 more women and 2 more the last mile.   I felt great and wished I'd gone faster at the start (but mabye i would not have felt so good at the end, who knows!)  I looked at my watch a couple times the last few miles and I was under 7 or a little above.   I don't know the rest of the splits because I'm not that high tec. and there were no milage signs to go off of.   I ended up 9 women overall and 4th in my age group, I think the results are not up yet.  I'm not sure how many were racing either.  It was overall an excellent day, I will do that race for sure next year, mabye even the 50k if I'm feeling really tough.  It is just two laps of the course i did.  Today I cannot imagine doing that course twice unless I walked a lot, all the hills for sure!  I'm just happy I felt good and am getting scared for my 50k in May. (the race was 16.1 miles and we did an easy 4 to make it 20 after the race).

Hope to see you Tuesday..I'm feeling much better today so I'll definately be there!

You did awesome! I am so glad that you had fun and that it was better than last weekend. I think it is funny how we all second guess what we did--like "could I have done better if I had gone faster at the beginning or were the slow miles what made me fast in the end??" I wonder about that stuff all of the time, ya just never know!

Hope to see you tomorrow.

I felt sick again this morning so I did not run outside (plus it was a total blizzard!).  I got into the gym to run on the tredmill in the afternoon.   I ran 2 easy then got bored and anxious and did 2 more fast.  Felt great, legs are feeling recovered and ready to go.   Still just a sore throat in the a.m. 's.  Don't know what that is?  Then I climbed for 1 1/2 hrs. till it was time to get the kids.  I'm praying for SUN!

Hows the legs? When's your next race? Have you done the Vikingman before? I was thinking of maybe doing it again this year if I can get swimming more.

Walter,

My legs feel good, I think i'm learning how to recover faster these days. My next race is not until May-The sapper Joe 50k. I may do SLC marathon I just don't want to pay for it! i need to do a really long one in April sometime. I have done Vikingman it's pretty fun. Swim is easy-downriver, bike is beautiful! Run was hot and miserable and long-so easy for someone like you! I just heard there doing a full ironman next year in st. george, let's go for that!-Nancy

Woke up to go to running group and felt really sick.  I ended up in the E.R. later in the day with some issues.  The nurse did some tests and said "are you a runner?"  I thought wow, you noticed, thank you"!  It kind of made my day that at least by my heart rate and blood pressure she could tell I was a runner.  Even if i haven't felt like it this week!  It does sure make me feel good to know all this running is doing my body good.  Just thought I'd share that.  I think the diagnosis was not strep throat like I thought, but yes to akindney stone and some other things all at once,  not a fun day!

I was going to run 10 today but the weather was crappy!  I woke up to snow (again) and was still feeling the effects of my cold.  I forced myself to go out anyway but only went 6 miles.  I ran nice and slow and despite the weather it was good to be out.  I want it to be spring so bad!  I have no more motivation to run in cold and snow.  Knowing Utah it will be 80 next week and I'll be complaining about the heat!  I have to kick it up for the next three weeks and start getting some 40 plus mile weeks.

Ran the West Rim trail in Zion with Mindy. We decided due to snow and mountain lions to start from the park and run 13 out to Lava Point trail head and 13 back. It was steeeeep, long, snowy, muddy and hard! It was also beautiful and very fun. I did not eat enough in the a.m. and felt low on energy all day. I carried a camel back which hurt my shoulders and bugged me all day-can't decide the best way to carry water. We stopped at 13 and ate a clif bar which really helped, I needed some real food. I ate a yogurt and banana in the a.m. and it was not enough. I also had aome power gel and some jelly beans which were fun to eat and kept my mind off the tired legs. It was to much uphill walk-running and not enough just running. The downhill was so great but from Angels Landing down it was so steep and my legs were done! I think Sapper joe will feel nice and level after this run.

The weather was great, not too hot, overcast and windy.  Do not do this race on a hot day, there is no shade.  We took a big loop up over the oquires down into the valley and all around some dirt roads then back up and over down some canyon into Camp Williams.  It was a lot more walking/hiking then I would like, but it was too steep to run.  We gained 2,000 feet in the first 4 miles and lost it all by mile 9.  The hills were steep and rocky and the flats were out on hot, gravel roads.  i learned to run ultras you need to master the art of the speed hiking and shuffling.  Mile 18-22 were back up and over the Oquires again, ahh.  The views were amazing, the flowers were beautiful and we saw even saw some wildlife.  There was mountain lion poop all over so don't run up there alone!

I felt pretty good till miles 29 and then the pain started.  My toes, ankles, knees and hips all started to hurt.  From 28 down was all down hill but by then my legs hurt.  I had good music and met some cool people to talk to to pass the time.    I met a guy whos done several ultra who told me it's all about making your body to run when it does not want to.   He's right.

It was fun, I probably would not do that course again, although some people loved it.  The Moab or antelope 50k would be much better.   I can almost imagine running a 50 now, I'd just have to slow down even more.  I don't know if I want to run that far tjough, this may be enough.  100's no way!   It was fun, glad it's over, time to rest!

I do need to mention I really tried to carbo load all week and drink a ton.  I also had a good breakfast, and kept making my self eat and drink all day which really helped.  Besides the pain after mile 29 I felt good.  They had HEED to drink at the aid stations and I loved it,  I need to get some.  It was really good!  I carried my own water in a hand bottle carrier and it was great, filled the bottle at all 4 aid stations.

I tried an ice bath for the first time after the race and so far feel o.k. Only one little blister and no injuries, yea!

Only one blister??? How did you pull that off? GREAT JOB Nancy! You are so flippin' amazing! The mountain lion poop would have about put me over the edge, that is why I get scared running too close to those dang mountains!

Okay, I want to do the Moab 50k! Are you gonna do it?

From Sue on Mon, May 25, 2009 at 23:38:42 from 71.35.238.119

Nancy,

Great report! I also ran the 50k and agree with your assessment that the course was way tougher than I thought it would be. I think I might be one of the women that flew down the scree hill...I have to make up for being slow on the uphill! ;-p

I also agree with your sentiment re: maybe not doing that one again. I didn't care for the gravel roads...I prefer singletrack and softer surfaces. It was pretty, though, and we lucked out with the temps.

FWIW, I still have no idea what the final results were!

Maybe I'll see you out on the trail (although I think I probably run a little farther north than you probably do...a lot of Shoreline between City Creek and the Zoo and Millcreek Canyon in the summer).

Sue

I really need to start getting up earlier and doing the warm up because 2 laps around the track does not work when the workout is this hard and fast!  We did 4x800's with one lap recovery in between.  I pushed it harder and harder each time.  First 3 800's were done in 3:30 then the last one in 3:22, my legs were already jello!  Then we went out to the roads and did a 2 miles tempo run and a 1 mile tempo run.  I can't figure out my garmin to tell how fast those laps were but our avg. pace was 7:30, it even said the fastest time was 5 something, ouch!   I really want to go fast at St. George so I'll have to really up it the next couple weeks.  After that I want to do more long and slow races it's so much easier to go slow!

missed my ride this morning so I loaded up the kids in the trailer and one on his bike and rode for an hour.   I think one hr. going that slow with three kids equals about 30 miles!  It was hot, they were heavy and my 6 yr. old was slow.  Once again I should have just gotten a baby sitter, but i guess it is good for them to get some exercise too right?

My husband is gone to scout camp so I had to run around the block. 10 times equals 5 miles.  That way I can keep an eye on my house and listen for my kids screaming.  I did 5 miles and tried to keep it slow and easy.  I felt terrible-my legs are still really tired from Tues. workout.  I felt better and better as I went along so at least that was promising.  I'm racing Sat. so I just wanted an easy run anyway. Avg. pace was 9.

That sounds like a smart way to run and keep and eye on the kids. When my kids were young I used to run across the street on the grass of our church property.

Damn those 20 seconds! Sorry for the language, I don't usually swear but "dang it" does not cover it!  I really wanted to go under 1:30.  Dang it to the big puddle of water I stepped in when I got off the bus in the a.m. and soaked my shoe!  Dang it to my small bladder that made me stop 2 times to go potty!   Other then all that it was a good race.

The weather was perfect, cold even just how I like it.  I even ran in a long sleeve for half the race.  I'd never done this half before and despite the poor organization, no food and crappy shirts it was great.  All down hill (except for one mile) and sooo beautiful.  I knew I had to stay under 6:50 the whole time and I did except for the hill and when I had to go potty.  I also got a bad cramp in my stomach at mile 7 and it slowed me for a while.  I cannot drink and try to run every time I do I get a stomach cramp.  When i trail race I carry a water bottle and just sip when needed and never get cramps.  I think from now on I will carry my own water.   I also really wanted water and twice grabbed gatorade instead, yuck!

My splits were

1.6:42

2.6:55

3.6:40

4.6:49-Felt great first 4 miles was even trying to go slow down the hill to save energy

5.7:14- Potty break

6.6:54

7.7:20- cramp in stomach-ouch!

8.7:21-Hill

9.6:54

10.6:57

11.7:01-slowing down, legs starting to hurt

12.6:36-realize I'm close to my goal so I go as fast as I can!!!!

13.6:30

1 mile warmup, 2 cool down-mostly walking-too painful to run. I was really going to not do any more half's if I got under 1:30. Now I'm mad and want to do it again, ahh!  Running is so addicting!  I had fun despite being all alone which was a bummer.  Great views, great music.  Oh well I really should be happy, it's only 20 sec. right!

P.S. I almost forgot a THANKS to Angela Lavery who let me run in her place.  Sorry RD who said I couldn't run (at 4:45 a.m. after driving down to Provo).  I did anyway.

Do TOU in a few weeks and you'll hit it, now you know how to take care of the potty and water. Plus you'll get a better shirt and waterstops - AND it will be chip timed! Those 20 seconds were all due to the crowd, that's what I'd blame it on :)

I'll be gone Sat. so I had to do a longer run today.  I hate doing long runs alone, and early and when it's windy.  I was NOT motivated, I ran slow and felt pretty awful.  I tried to do a hard 7 mile trail run followed by a long run today instead of one 19-20 miler.  I'm not sure about this though.  My knees, hips and stomach all hurt.  I still feel kind of tired from last sat. but that should not be!!   Oh well, I'm doing 34 next Sat so i need to recover for the next 2 days!

I actually showed up for the early miles this morning with the BBKS and I liked it.  Other then my legs were done 1/2 way through the main workout.  We did a 3 mile warm up then some hill/strait away  repeats, 5 of them, yuck.  Then we just reversed the order and did 5 more, more yuck!  I bailed out at lap three and ran with Dean, Cheris and Michelle M. which was much better.  At the end we did 1 marathon paced mile which seemed so fast then a little cool down.  It was  a hard workout, and my legs are tired.  Was going to climb today but I mopped the floor instead-it's all I had the energy for today.  I don't know how all you die hards run 10 miles everyday.

Teton Circumnavigation Run WY.

Wow, what a day! 34 miles, 8,000 feet elevation gain, 9 hrs!!  It was the most beautiful run I've ever done, in a place that I love!  I gave myself a 36 because we got lost more then once and My Garmin was not working.  The trail is 34 miles but I'm just guessing on our 2 mile detour.  Getting lost on a  34 mile is a really bad thing!

We started late 8 a.m. at the Death canyon trailhead.  We ran a counterclockwise loop around the Tetons.   Death canyon to Jenny Lake (13 miles) mostly flat beautiful trail!  Up cascade canyon (5) miles, all runnable and sooo pretty.  Then we turned Left into cascade fork and up to Hurricane pass, sooo steep.  Lots of fast hiking through here, too steep to run.  There were lakes, waterfalls, streams and springs everywhere!  We would stop periodically and just fill up our camelpacks and drink away, nice cold, clean water.  I  can't imagine heaven being any better then this place!  From Hurricane pass to Buck mountain pass was long, windy, and steep.  I was getting really tired and kind of sick of running, we were only at mile 28 now so there was not really any choice but to continue.  Finally the summit of Buck mt. pass meant all down hill, yea!!  It was steep though and a killer on the tired legs.  The trail ran right on the edge of a huge cliff for almost a mile, So cool!  We reached Death canyon and knew we only had 6 miles left but they were the longest 6 miles of my life!  The trail was mostly dpown hill and flat but I was really tired.  I tried to just listen to my music and keep a good quick pace going.  We got to the car in 9 hrs. and 4 min.  It was a great run!  My longest yet and I felt it.   My last 50k had only 6k feet vertical and this had 8k which felt like a lot more!  It also took 3 hrs. longer, yuck!

I'm not sure I'm ready for a 50 miler yet.  We hurried to Jackson and ate lots of pizza and drove home.  It's sun. now and I feel great.  I'm not sure what the difference is but I'm hardly sore.   We definitely did not beat any speed records and that must have helped my legs a lot.  I'm trying to keep moving today and gets lots of fluids and food!

p.s. if any of you BBKers out there read this you all did awesome at Hobblecreek!!!!  and Kelli you'll be back soon!!

WASATCH100- Well it was a strange but amazing race.  I ran the last 25 as  pacer with my friend Ryan M.   I met him at 1:20 a.m. at Brighton and ran with him through the night to the finish.  He as in o.k. shape for someone who just ran 75 miles.  Most people actually looked o.k. a few looked like death!!  The call the Brighton aid station "THe Morgue" for a good reason.  From brighton the trail is steeep and sandy and dark and cold and everyone is out of it!!!  Ryan kept lying down and falling asleep.  My job was to keep him awake and moving.  We ran into a bull moose in the dark and were scared to death!  The first 8 miles went on this way.  Up and down and up and down and just trying to stay awake.  He was not very talkative at this point and i tried my best but soon ran out of stories.  Each aid station was like heaven!!  We ate pancakes, sausage, brownies, candy, etc, etc.  It is a rad race when you eat brownies at aid stations!  At one point around 3a.m. I fell asleep while running and endo'd off the trail.  It was enough to keep us both laughing for miles.   we also ran into some awesome crazy guy who had camped out in the middle of no where all night to cheer the runners on.  He had beach balls, a radio, a hawain shirt, ect.   He made us so happy , I think I told him I loved him.   Finally the sun started to rise and ryan got some more sausage and he was a new man.  We put on our ipods and started to run, really run.  I  was having a hard time keeping up which was a blow to my ego!  Ryan was on mile 90 and he was cruisin!!  We did the last 17 in good style and it was hard terrain.  Very steep up and down, very rocky and dusty.  I really wanted to do this race until those last few miles.  It never gets easy, ever!  The last mile is on the road in Heber and it's uphill!   To summarize it was an awesome thing to be a part of.   I cried at the finish because I was so inspired by all those runners who made it!  What an accomplishment.   I am in, I just need a couple years and some 50 milers to see if I am mentally tough enough.  A beautiful, amazing course though, so fun to see how all the wasatch mts. are connected.  Ryan finished in 31 hrs.  in 54th place.  Our friend Jared got 4th in 22hrs!!  He's a maniac!

I just wanted to add for future reference.. The miles from Brighton to Ant knoll were steep uphill, lots of walking, and soft sand.   From the top of LCC it's steep downhill and rocky-would be very painful after 80 miles of running-bring ski poles for this whole section.  Climb out of ant knoll is aweful, so steep and slow.  Then there is some runnable sections, flat and nice trail, to pot bottom.  Then it's steep again, on a road and very hot-you'd have to save something extra for this next section.  From pot bottom to the end it's up and down, up and down-felt like we were running in circles for hrs.!  This would be mentally very hard!  Then finally at about mile 95 it's downhill again but steep and rocky-my ankles hurt!   The last few miles were nice, downhill, soft and heavenly.  Then out to the road and about a mile to the homestead.  I would really want to finish in 26-28 hrs. before the heat got bad again.  Yea right, that's a long ways off!  I may be dreamin!

Glad you weren't hurt falling asleep...that would be a good memory to revisit as you 'ran on' That guy must know what it's like to be at that mile - beach balls and music would have to help!! You are so inspiring, I know you'll get it done soon!! Congrats to Ryan for holding up and finishing strong!!!

Ran with the group today although I really did not want to and probably shouldn't have.  I am sore and tired from this weekend and i have some little pains in my knees and calves that need some rest.  We warmed up, did some 2 mile repeats that i ran way to fast trying to keep up with Kelli.  Then we did some hill sprints that I took really easy. And some more cool down miles to the car.  It's always fun to see everyone and chat but it hurts sometimes!

I did some good stretching today and decided to do an easy run down the JPT with the jogger and the baby.  Man that is hard!  I just did 4 easy miles at 9-9:30 pace but I forgot how hard it is to push the stroller, yuck!  Finn had fun but I think I'll wake up early next time and go alone.   My right calve is hurting and one spot on my right knee cap.  One more hard track workout tomorrow then I need to take it easy.

Yeah, I used to always run with the jogger. Tried earlier this spring and I only got about 500 feet! :) So much harder than doing it alone, so nice work getting 4 in! Take care of those aches and pains, no bad injuries!!

Ran with the group today, hopefully one of the last torturous track workouts of the year!  I ran from home and met the group on the warm up so i got in the full warm up which helped.  We did 2 laps on the track then started the Yasso 800's.  I luckily had Julie to ran with and push me along or I would have quit.  We were suppose to do 8 but I only did 6 then ran some slow laps instead.  My right calf is still bugging me from the weekend.  We pushed it pretty hard, at least I thought so. Juie is really fast and it was probably slow for her.  We came in at 3:26 almost every time.  I ran home slowly then stretched and fell fine tonight.  I'm rested tomorrow so I can get a good one in on SAt.

I finally did a marathon paced run with some bbkers.  I keep doing all my long runs on the trails and end up going pretty slow.  I needed to get in one good fast one so I'd feel better about st. george.  We ran 12 miles on the JRP trail form Cheris's house.  I ran out with Cheris and Michelle and back with Julie.  We did some 9mm and some 8 and some at 7:30.  I felt o.k. going out, windy and feeling tired form the last few weeks.  I tried some EFS gel at mile 7 and started feeling good.  We ran the last 6 pretty fast and I felt great.  It wasn't t hard to keep a 7:30-8 min. pace.  It made me feel less nervous for st. g.  I'm getting excited.

Well it's over and I'm happy.  Everything turned out just as planned or better.  We had a fun time with just the girls, much easier to focus on the race.  Hydrated all week and carbo loaded and was felling good.  I took it really easy the week before and was ready to run.  We brought our own dinner down and it felt good on my stomach.   This was the biggest race I've ever done and my second "real" road marathon.  It was exciting to be at the start with so many people and the lights and d.j. made it all so fun.  We were throwing our bags in the truck when the gun went off, ahh!  I found a hole in the gate and started runing back to find the 3:30 pacer when I saw Cheris and Michelle.  The grabbed me and we started running.  I'm so glad they did, it made all the difference.  I was going to go for a 3:30 then decided the few days before to try a 3:20.  It really helped to startt with them and try to stick with them the whole race.  I also decided to bag following split times the whole race-because i would have been stressed out if I fell behind.  Instead we just followed the 3:20 guy the whole way.  The first half felt great and flew by.  We could have gone faster but was not sure how that would have turned out, probably not good.  I stopped to go potty 5 or 6 times-ridiculous!  I have to solve that problem, I was well hydrated though!!  Every time I stopped I would have to sprint to catch up to the girls and the pacer guy which hurt me.  Veyo hill was fine, we slowed to a 8:20 pace and it felt great.  I took gu at miles 7, 13 and 19 which seemed like a lot but it worked, I also always drank water when i gu'd and I drank Gatorade the other times.  i also always waled when I drank which seemed to work, I actually drank and never got a side cramp.  My avg. pace was around 7:30, slower on the hills.  I felt great at up to mile 16 then my quads started hurting.  By 19 they killed! I was mad cause other then that i felt great but the pain was pretty bad.  not really crampy just sore.  I never felt like i could let go and scream down the hils cause it hurt so bad.  The up hills and flats felt great but there were not enough of those.  At 21 Michelle took off and i could not keep up.  Cheris's calves were hurting her and she slowed a bit.  I knew I had to hurry now or would not beet 3:20.  I gave the last three miles everything i had and stayed around 7 min. miles.  I had my radio up loud and was trying to stay focused, it really hurt though.  I loved the crowd, I even got teary eyed that last mile.  I was thinking of all those cold, early mornings when I did not want to run and I did.  I was thinking of the crappy (no offense Peggy and Cheryl) hill workouts and track workouts.  I was happy they were paying off now.   I ran across the line just in front of the 3:20 pacer who ran way too fast the whole race and slowed way down the last mile!  So fun to see everyone along the course and at the finish!  I was very impressed by EVERYONES times, no matter what they were we all worked hard and did our best and should be very happy.  Thanks to everyone!!  I may not do another road race, ever!!  I am so sore, more sore then I've ever been.  I think I'm aiming for a 50 miler or an ironman next.  I'll leave all the really fast times to you all!

I have been running since SGM but only 2 or 3 times per week.  Been trail running up in the SLC area and biking mostly.  I met with the group a few times, they sure seem fast, i thought we were kind of resting?  I need a little mental time off till winter training begins.  I'm going to race cyclocross the next few sat. so I think i'll bike more then I run till Dec.   I did run up Beacon Peak today, I use the term "run" lightly.  It was steep!  I hiked up and ran down.  It was perfect weather and I was so glad to get out and up high before the snow flies tomorrow!   It took me 50 min. to get up and 40 to get down.  I did run a little extra near the bottom to even out the miles.

The climbing sounds like a lot of fun. With all the exercise you do you are in very good shape.

Swam with the Masters group at Marv Jensen, it was great.  Great work out nice people, swam about an hr. did 2000 m.  arms were so tired by the end!  Decided not to run today because we went tele skiing all day and my legs would not have made it, barley made it any ways!!  So fun and so hard on the legs!!

Swam 1 hr. with a swim coach, easy workout but i learned a lot.  Like..I pull across my body and not strait out, I don't rotate my body enough, I need to keep my hand 12 inch. under water and relax my hand and arm, pull all the way through the stroke past my hip.  It'll give me a lot to work on the next few months.  Came home and did weights with my boys-who really just laughed at me.

I really need to have a swim coach help me. You are already a good swimmer so I'm sure you'll even get better.

Tried out a new spin class at the rec. center-mine starts in 2 weeks, ahh!  It was a great class, pretty hard.  Then i ran upstairs and did a quick 2 miles on the treadmill.   I'm trying to run after every bike ride and it's getting easier and easier.

Great x-mas eve run with the group.  Went for early miles and then 6 more wih the group.  Not fast but I was done by the end.  Then we got hot choc. and cinnamon rolls thanks to "the girls".  I need to do some longer runs, 10 miles seems so far now.

Rode for 40 min. on the trainer with tons of interuptions then swam for 40 in. at the rec center during the day.  After being sick for 2 days and having no energy or fluids in my body i did o.k.

Wanted to run with the group again yesterday but i felt really sick again-round 2 I guess. I ran 5 today in the snow then did a new 30 min. training video on my bike trainer-felt good!  My run was super slow and I even had to walk-I had no energy and my stomach hurt!
